![]() ![]() ![]() I loved how much that made me think about every choice I made, whether I wanted to go all-in on one character or use multiple people for a wider variety of effects. Playing three cards from the same character in a single turn activates a special fourth card for them that's determined by their equipped weapon – for example, Copernica’s ability to shield her entire team was a staple of my current run – while some other cards get bonus effects if they are played after one from a specific teammate. ![]() On top of SP is a clever combo system that went a long way toward constantly keeping battles fresh. It’s all the choice and variety I love from card games like Slay the Spire in a bite-sized form – granted, I missed many of Slay the Spire’s quality-of-life touches, like automatically updating a card’s displayed damage based on an enemy’s weaknesses or being able to look through your remaining deck, but it works well enough. But even as more strategies open up, you are still only ever picking any eight cards you want each character to equip at a time, and that simplicity keeps deck building from ever feeling overwhelming. As the game ends, the doctor in charge of the simulation explains the need to find a unique perspective by stepping outside of oneself. The narrative of “Superliminal” focuses on the same thing the gameplay does: perspective and, specifically, the player character’s perspective. “Superliminal” is more concerned with variety, and keeping each puzzle simple, yet striking and memorable. Most puzzle games are interested in creating deep puzzles. “Superliminal” is so brief and so continuously creative with what it demands, while its puzzles remain easy to solve, that even if I was frustrated for a little bit, that frustration was quickly replaced by joy at the ingenuity and sheer visual spectacle of the solutions. That may sound negative, but it isn’t necessarily. The player either understands what they need to do, or they don’t. There is one correct action to solve the puzzle. The player must scale up the cheese by dragging it into a position where it looks large, so they can use it as a ramp to reach the button. One early puzzle involves a button, which needs to be pressed to open a door, placed on a ledge unreachable to the player and a small wedge of cheese. “Superliminal,” in contrast, is about fumbling blindly to find one correct action, like trying to fit a square peg into the appropriate hole while blindfolded. Most puzzle games demand that the player perform a complex series of interlocking tasks, drawn from a toolbelt of abilities the player has learned to appreciate. When I started “Superliminal,” I was expecting deep, intricate puzzles. Despite how unique it sounds, the game is actually really simplistic. The rest of the game follows the player as they try to escape the malfunctioning simulation solving increasingly bizarre and surreal perspective puzzles along the way. When it comes to coffee or espresso drinks, it varies based on the size of the drink. I like to use 1 ounce or 2 tablespoons of peppermint syrup when I’m making a cocktail. ![]() The amount you add will vary based on your palette and depends on how sweet and minty you like your drinks. Now that we’ve talked about how to use this peppermint simple syrup, it’s time to talk about how much of it should be added to a drink! How Much Peppermint Syrup Should I Use in a Drink? I use this technique in my peppermint mocha cake recipe and it really takes the cake to the next level. If you want to make / freeze cake layer in advance, I recommend thawing them and then adding the simple syrup just before you frost the cake. I usually brush my cake layers with simple syrup right before I assemble a cake. The entire top of the cake layer should look moist once you’ve added it. You can use a silicone pastry brush or a plastic squirt bottle to generously soak each cake layer with syrup. I highly recommend leveling each cake layer before adding the syrup, so they can easily absorb the syrup. I’m sure it’s no surprise, but my favorite way to use peppermint simple syrup is to brush it on cake layers!! It adds both moisture and flavor, and truly makes any cake irresistible. This peppermint simple syrup tastes amazing in cocktails, mocktails, coffee, or even with cake. How Can You Use This Peppermint Simple Syrup? If you’re making this in advance, it can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a month. I like to keep my simple syrup in glass containers or mason jars for easy storage. Pour into a separate container and cool to room temperature. Waiting to add the extract until you’ve removed that pan from heat will prevent it from evaporating and losing some of its flavor. Remove from heat and stir in 1 tsp of peppermint extract. This should only take about 15 seconds! The mixture should look clear. Heat over a medium-high heat until the water begins to boil.Īdd in 1 cup of granulated sugar at this point and stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved. Pour 1 cup of water into a small saucepan. I love this recipe because it seriously takes less than 3 minutes to make! ![]() Make sure you don’t use peppermint oil or peppermint “flavor.”
